On August 16, 2015, Unit 3 of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant (Hongyanhe NPP) passed the 168-hour test run, officially putting the project into commercial operation. Thus, SPIC has achieved a total installed capacity of 100.15 GW with the proportion of clean energies reaching 39.41%.
As the first large commercial nuclear power plant in Northeast China, Hongyanhe NPP is planned to build six PWR units with a total installed capacity of 6,700 MW, among which Units 1 and 2 have already been put into commercial operation, Unit 4 is on its commissioning stage, and Units 5 and 6 are in smooth progress as scheduled. Once the other three units are operational, 15 million tons of standard coal will be saved per year compared with conventional thermal power plants of the same scale, whereby the CO2 emission reduction effect is equivalent to planting 99,000 hectares of forest.
Exceeding 100 GW in installed capacity is a milestone for SPIC, which means a breakthrough in power mix adjustment and industrial structure optimization, where the feature of clean energy development has become more distinguished. SPIC has entered a new development stage and it will take technological innovation as the drive and clean energy development as the core to expand its energy market home and abroad, aiming to build the company into an innovative, comprehensive energy group and modern SOE with international competitiveness.
