All the four sets of reactor coolant pumps (hereinafter referred to as ?main pumps?) for Haiyang Nuclear Power No.1 Unit in the 3rd generation nuclear independence project successfully completed inching for the first time at 3:06 on June 30, 2016. Wang Binghua, chairman and party secretary of State Power Investment Corporation, Wang Zhongtang, general manager assistant of State Power Investment Corporation, party member and general manager of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation Ltd., and Wang Fengxue, party member and vice general manager of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation Ltd. as well as general manger of Shandong Nuclear Power Company Ltd. presented themselves on the site, witnessed and directed the first inching operation.

     Before the first inching of the main pumps was conducted, personnel from Shandong Nuclear Power Company Ltd., State Nuclear Power Engineering Corp. Ltd., the integrated commissioning team and Westinghouse Electric Corporation fully carried forward the struggling spirit, united as one and strived to tackle key problems. During the preparation phase of starting up pumps, they carried out a great amount of meticulous and thoughtful work, organized and completed a series of work strictly in accordance with relevant procedures, including debugging of frequency converters for the main pumps, vacuum pumping and charging tests of the primary loop, boosting the primary loop up to 2.5Mpa by starting up make-up water pumps in the chemical vessel control system, nitrogen backfilling of the main pumps. Relevant participants organized multiple desktop deductions to finalize details, and conducted multi-round drills by means of stimulators so as to ensure the main pumps were fully qualified for inching.

    At 19:30 on June 29, the National Nuclear Safety Administration confirmed the prerequisites for initially starting up the main pumps; and at 03:06 on June 30, all of the four sets of main pumps completed inching operation in turn. The whole testing procedure was rigorous and orderly such that the inching of the four sets of main pumps was successfully conducted at its first time.

    The success in that all of the four sets of main pumps for Haiyang Nuclear Power No.1 Unit completed inching for the first time lays a solid foundation for the cold functional tests followed, and provides the most powerful support to the subsequent HFT, charging and interconnected power generation.
