On April 19, Mr. Qian Zhimin, Chairman of SPIC, met with Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) at SPIC headquarters. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on energy transition development and cooperation on global projects.

Mr. Camera spoke highly of the outstanding contribution made by SPIC in promoting the development of renewable energy. He said that IRENA is committed to promoting the popularization and application of renewable energy worldwide and accelerating the role of renewable energy in the global energy system. It is hoped that SPIC will play a leading role in the renewable energy industry and share successful practices based on its own advantages. IRENA also expressed the hope to establish closer ties with SPIC, and carry out more in-depth and extensive cooperation, so as to contribute to the low-carbon and sustainable development of global energy.

Mr. Qian welcomed Mr. Camera’s visit. He noted that improving the global climate, ensuring global food security and ensuring energy security are key concerns of the world. China’s major strategic decision to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality injects a strong impetus to the global response to climate change. SPIC has actively pursued green development and unswervingly taken the path of clean, low-carbon and efficient development. IRENA is the world’s largest and most influential intergovernmental international organization on renewable energy. It is hoped that the two sides will further strengthen cooperation and jointly advance clean and low-carbon energy transition, thus contributing to the global carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
