Qian Zhimin Attended the Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference and Met with Ministers of Pakistan and Malta

On October 18-19, the Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference and International Forum on Energy Transition were held in Suzhou. Qian Zhimin, Chairman of the Board of SPIC, attended the conference.

The theme of the conference is “jointly building the Belt and Road energy partnership”. Representatives from 29 countries and 7 international organizations as well as leaders of 53 famous domestic and foreign enterprises attended the conference.

During the conference, Qian respectively met with Omar Ayub Khan, Minister of Electricity of Pakistan, and Joe Mizzi, Minister for Energy and Water Management of Malta. They made exchange of ideas on further cooperation in energy field.

In meeting with Omar Ayub Khan, Qian Zhimin said that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners, and SPIC is willing to cooperate comprehensively with Pakistan in power field, thus making greater contribution to enhancing the friendship and deepening energy cooperation.

Khan said that Pakistan always attached great importance to all-round cooperation with China, and the new administration will follow the principle of openness and transparency to promote the investment and cooperation in power projects with Chinese enterprises, including SPIC.

During the meeting with Joe Mizzi, Qian expressed thanks to Joe Mizzi for speaking highly of SPIC’s investment and development in Malta in his opening ceremony speech. Qian said that SPIC had achieved great success in power cooperation in Malta. SPIC hope to carry out more win-win cooperation with Malta in new energy field, and further expand the cooperation in other European countries following the ongoing wind power project in Montenegro.

Joe Mizzi said that the cooperation between SPIC and Enemalta PLC was a model of industrial cooperation between the two countries. He hoped that SPIC would continue to participate in energy research and planning in Malta and deepen the cooperation in the energy field between both sides.
