China’s First Solar IBC Battery Production Line Was Commenced for Construction

On August 23, the 200-MW N-type IBC Battery and Its Components Project of SPIC's Solar Power Co., Ltd. was commenced for construction in Xining. As the first IBC battery and its components mass production line in China, the Project adopts the low-cost double-faced all back-contact electrodes technology. After putting into production, its average battery conversion efficiency can reach 23%, which is higher than that of the conventional monocrystalline solar battery (20.3%). IBC battery, currently, is the silicon crystal cell with the highest mass production rate worldwide.

After putting into production, the Project will become the first low-cost and high-efficiency production line of N-type IBC battery and its components in China, with the mass production cost of components of about RMB 2.37/W. After applying relevant products of the Project, the power generation cost of the PV power plant can be reduced to RMB 0.263/kWh, and the system efficiency will reach 85%.

After the Project is put into production in 2019, its battery conversion efficiency will reach 23% and the module power 330 W. After the Project is completed, by 2020, the Xining Branch will form a high-efficiency production scale of 1-GW silicon wafer + 1-GW battery and its components. As the technology continues to advance, it is expected that by 2025, the battery conversion efficiency will exceed 25%, ranking top in the world.
