CPI attaches great importance to production safety. By strictly implementing national regulations and policies about production safety, enhancing safety assurance and supervision system, clarifying responsibilities, identifying and eliminating potential hazards and conducting stringent safety management, remarkable and steady headway has been made in production safety. Especially in 2008, CPI succeeded in a series of tasks including combating the snowstorm and ice hazard, earthquake relief and meeting peak power demand during summer time, offering significant contributions to assuring safe and steady power supply for the “two national congresses” and Olympic Games.

To ensure power supply for the Olympic Games, CPI took concrete measures, drew up overall work plan and seven specific work programs for power security and stability, and achieved zero-accident during the Olympic Games. Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd. and Fushun Power Generation Company of CPI Northeast Branch were rewarded by State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

From 2007, China has systematically carried out hazard elimination. CPI has carefully fulfilled relevant requirements and designated that year as the “Year of Hazard Elimination” based on its actual conditions, so major hazards and defects bearing on production safety have been effectively harnessed. In a period of two years, altogether 6339 safety hazards have been identified and correction rate exceeded 95%. Considerable achievements therein have consolidated the basis for production safety.

While continuously enhancing production safety of power generation as core industry, CPI has also strengthened production safety management of non-power related industries and steadily improved safety performance thereof. From 2004 to 2008, against the general background of severe situation of coal production safety and frequent occurrence of accidents, no casualty or death accidents, or non-casualty or death accidents of “major” level or above have happened in CPI’s raw coal production. Safety of coal production remained basically stable with consecutive “zero” death accidents.
