All new coal-fired power plants built in recent years have adopted large-capacity and high-performance units of 600MW and 1000MW class, except for heating units. In the water-lacking northern area, all new thermal units have adopted air cooling technology, consuming 75% less water than conventional thermal units. CPI has also successively put into operation the first China-made 600MW thermal unit, China's first 600MW USC units, first China-made 600MW unit demonstrating direct air cooling, and first large-capacity and high-performance gas-fired units.

  

By the end of 2008, CPI has completed the desulfurization upgrading of 48 units, equipping 81.1% of the units with desulfurization device; achieved the standard coal consumption of power generation of 350g/KWh, 22.38g /KWh lower than when CPI was first founded and saving an accumulative 2.82 million tons of standard coal; reduced soot, NOx and SO₂ emission per KWh by 1.21g, 2.6g and 2.47g respectively compared to when CPI was first founded; and accomplished the goal of shutting down small thermal units set in the national 11^th Five Year Plan two years ahead of schedule.

  

In 2008, CPI was honored the title of "New Demonstration Enterprise for Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection" by UNEP.
