Source:Writer:Date:20/06/2018

Malaysia’s first large photovoltaic power generation project, the 50 MW photovoltaic project in Sabah, connected to power grid on May 3. The project is built by Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Corp (SDEPCI), a subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) in the form of EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction). It is also a landmark power project in pursuit of mutual benefit by China and Malaysia under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

By succeeding in its first overseas general contract project of new energy, SDEPCI has secured its position in the new energy market in Southeast Asia, blazing an oversea trail for Chinese enterprises.

At the beginning of 2016, the new energy overseas development team of SDEPCI accurately found the increasing electricity demand in Malaysia while its electricity market was in short supply and out of regional balance. Then SDEPCI actively bid for solar farm project in the country and finally won the bidding in December of the same year.

After a careful procedure of comprehensive assessment, the Sabah state government and the project owner Tadau Energy Sdn Bhd choose SDEPCI for its professional qualification, fruitful achievements and reliable reputation in the new energy field over the past decade. The project kicked off in January, 2017, marking the start of cooperation between China and Malaysia on renewable energy development.

During the project construction, SDEPCI drew up the Quality Management Manual for the PV Project in Malaysia, which has now become an important reference for the quality management of PV projects in the country.

The project received much attention from Malaysian governmental departments and various parties from the very beginning. Maximus, Minister of Energy of Malaysia, paid a visit to the Shanghai Base of SDEPCI and the headquarters of SPIC. He spoke highly of the professional competence of the SPIC team. During the construction of the project, SDEPCI strictly followed local laws and established sound relations with local communities, creating a large number of jobs for local people as well as provided training of engineering, technology, business and management for local employees.

At the ceremony to celebrate grid-connecting, Susanna Lim, managing director of Tadau Energy Sdn Bhd and representative of the project owner said that SPIC has become synonymous with professionalism, dedication, technology leadership and management excellence to the Malaysian party.
