On Oct. 22, 2017, the 2017 Atlantic International Nuclear Conference sponsored by ABEN was opened in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The conference is aimed to provide an opportunity for in-depth discussions on the role of nuclear energy, as a key national program, in stimulating industrial demands, job creation, economic development and regional environmental improvement. A delegation led by Li Huijie, head of the discipline inspection group of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) attended the conference.

SNPTC demonstrated with its presentation of the large advanced pressurized water reactor CAP1400—— a major national science and technology project——the progress and achievement of China’s self-reliant development of Generation III nuclear technology, to industry delegations, media and the public, making it the focus of attention for the meeting attendees. Government officials from the energy departments of Brazil and other South American countries, senior executives of globally prestigious nuclear companies, and local college students visited SNPTC exhibition stand.

During the conference and exhibition, SNPTC introduced the profile of State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and SNPTC, progress of AP1000 supporting projects, and status of CAP1400 nuclear technology R&D and the associated demonstration project through various means such as brochures, models, videos and display boards.

Thanks to its safety features, cost effectiveness and environmental-friendly nature, CAP1400 has gained wide attention across the global nuclear power market. On the sidelines of the conference, Li Huijie exchanged ideas with Eletronuclear CEO Leonam dos Santos Guimaraes about nuclear project cooperation. A representative from Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute (SNERDI) was invited to deliver a special speech, where experts and Brazilian public at the scene were introduced to SNPTC’s business distribution, technical capacity as well as features and outlook of CAP series nuclear power technology.

Started in 2002, the Atlantic International Nuclear Conference is held every two years and intended to boost communication of global nuclear power industry, and expand exchange and collaboration between Brazilian nuclear power industry and the international peers. Over 100 companies, 2000 plus nuclear professionals attended the conference this year. SNPTC has participated in the Atlantic Nuclear Conference twice in succession. Owing to the intensive technical publicity and marketing, the CAP1400 technology has won high praise from the Brazilian government and related enterprises.
