The World’s First CAP1400 Reactor Pressure Vessel Hydraulic Test succeeded the First Time!

21:15 on March 17, 2017 the hydraulic test of the unit 1 reactor pressure vessel of the major special demonstration project CAP1400 completed successfully, which is designed independently by SNPTC Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Institute and manufactured by CFHI with world’s most advanced manufacturing technology. The test process was witnessed by the officials of National Nuclear Safety Administration as well as the design team and personnel on site of the Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Institute of CFHI.

 

The pressure of the hydraulic test was 17.2MPa and the hydraulic test includes two stages which were the hydraulic test of the container body as well as the leakage test of internal and external O ring. The pressure of the whole hydraulic test was 21.5MPa and the holding time was ten minutes. When the pressure dropped to 17.2MPa, the leakage test of internal and external O ring began. During the process of pressure test, the indicators are in line with the whole design requirements, no leakage and sweating phenomenon. The hydraulic pressure test was completed successfully, which indicated that the CAP1400 reactor pressure vessel has been made domestically and lays a good foundation for the construction of the third generation of nuclear power.

 

CAP1400 reactor pressure vessel is the core equipment of nuclear power units and the most important safety barrier to prevent the leakage of radioactive material, which cannot be replaced within 60 years of its life-time. Its advancement is essential to ensure the safety and reliability of nuclear power plant operation. The reactor pressure vessel adopts top and bottom integration, reducing the amount of weld, with only a girth weld on the entire cylinder, so the inspection work and personnel required were reduced, which improves the safety and economy of nuclear power plant and ensures the world leading technology in the design and manufacturing.
