On August 23, 2016, President Xi Jinping visited the Xining Branch of SPIC Solar Power Co., a subsidiary of SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Co. (HHDC), to inspect the development of Qinghai Province’s clean energy and PV industry chain based on its natural resource endowment. Having been briefed by Mr. Wu Haikun, Director General of Qinghai Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and Mr. Xie Xiaoping, Chairman of HHDC, Mr. Xi highlighted that there are sufficient solar radiation and desertified land in Qinghai Province, and SPIC should give play to its industry, technology, talent and finance advantages and make every reasonable effort to develop the PV industry well and benefit the local people by means of clean energy.

    Mr. Xi then visited the solar cell workshop at 101 Plant of the branch, where he listened to the introduction of the Longyangxia Hybrid Hydro-Solar Project and the practice of ecological restoration by PV projects, and visited the silicon wafer section, semi-finished products section, screen printing and sintering process section of the production line.

    SPIC has a total installed capacity of 6,640 MW from PV power, ranking first in the world. It owns a complete PV industry chain from R&D, planning and design, polysilicon, PV cells and modules manufacturing, to PV power plant construction and professional training. HHDC takes the lead in China to build a vertically-integrated PV industry chain covering polysilicon and wafer production, solar cells and modules manufacturing and PV power generation, which has become a leading developer of PV projects in Qinghai Province.
