Source:Writer:Date:30/07/2018

The Vinh Tan super-critical thermal power plant in Vietnam’s Binh Thuan Province has begun the commercial operation of its unit 1 on June 6, which will greatly relieve the pressure of electricity demand in the southern province and drive local economic development.

The Vinh Tan power plant is a cooperation project of significant in many respects. It is a key production cooperation project reached by China and Vietnam, a project aiming to promote power development in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, as well as a project included in the Belt and Road Initiative. The power plant with two generator units of 620 MW is co-invested by China Southern Power Grid, China Power International Development Limited (a subsidiary company of State Power Investment Limited) and Vietnam Electricity.

The construction of the power plant began in July 2015. Five months ahead of schedule, the power plant’s No.1 unit is put into commercial operation. When the power plant is fully put into operation in 2019, it will generate electricity of 8 billion kilowatt-hours a year, effectively relieving power shortage pressure and meeting the demand of 1.25 million local families in southern Vietnam.

During construction, the project has paid much attention to environment protection and safety, preventing and controlling pollution effectively.
