On August 30, 2017, Chairman Wang Binghua met with Mr. Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, the former President of Chile and Special Envoy for Asian-Pacific Affairs in Beijing. Both parties exchanged views on cooperation in the energy field.

Chairman Wang pointed out, the existing and new power businesses of SPIC in Chile have maintained a sound momentum of development under the strong support of the Chile government. SPIC integrated smoothly with the culture of Pacific Hydro Chile, and it will realize the diversified development of its power generating assets in Chile through the development of wind and solar power projects in the future.

Mr. Frei pointed out that Chile is under the transformation from traditional fossil energy to clean energy. The government supports the alternative energy sources including PV power, wind power and geothermal power generation. It will intensify the construction of power grid and promote energy interconnection with neighboring countries, and encourages SPIC to provide competitive clean energy to the Chilean people.

SPIC has completed the transaction to acquire the assets of Pacific Hydro Chile in January 2016. There are currently five hydropower stations  in operation, with a total capacity of 500 MW, one wind power project under construction, with a capacity of 80 MW, and 900 MW reserved projects in earlier stage. SPIC is the largest Chinese power generation company investing in Chile.
