Responsibility

Jointly promote harmony as global citizen (2016)

We adhere to sharing development achievements in project locations while achieving our own development goals. We invigorate local economic development, actively integrate into overseas culture to establish normalized communication mechanism with the community, play close attention to culture and education sectors and conduct poverty-alleviation activities to constantly improve the well-being of local residents.

Promote local economic development

With advantages in terms of funds, equipment and talents, we actively promote overseas operation, drive the economic development of the project location through sufficient power supply, and improve the living standards of local people via localized purchases and industry-assisted projects.

The Chipwi Nge HPP in Myanmar has eased power shortage in Northern Myanmar.

The installed capacity of the Chipwi Nge HPP is 99 MW, and the designed annual power generation is 599 GW. The main function of the power plant is to provide electricity for the construction of large hydropower projects in the upper reaches of Ayeyawady River, and then changed into the commercial power plant to provide electricity for local society, which has effectively alleviated serious power shortage in the north of Myanmar, providing sufficient power supply for the production and commercial operation of local factories. There are 55 employees from local Myanmar and 13 Chinese employees, and the localized employment has reached 81% therefore.

The Tsukuba Ibaraki Project in Japan is conducive to the income increase of farmers.

The Tsukuba Ibaraki PV Project, located in Tsukuba Ibaraki, Japan, with its total investment about 13 billion yens, is the largest hybrid agriculture-solar project in Japan. By planting high-value sciophilous crops under solar panels, it has brought good economic income to local farmers (187), provided green and clean solar energy for local communities, and increased taxes and employment for the government.

The CPIH-HUBCO Project in Pakistan boosts local economic growth.

According to initial estimates, the CPIH-HUBCO Project in Pakistan will utilize local raw materials and daily consumables (worth $5 million) during its 36-month construction, which will create an economic value of $9 million for local security, gardening, catering, transportation, internal affairs, etc. And local economic and social development will be greatly boosted. After its completion, the Project will effectively alleviate power shortage, enhance the operating rate of local enterprises, and boost foreign exchange earnings through exports and local economic growth.

Commitment to employee localization

We insist on the localization of overseas operation, strengthen localized employment during the construction of overseas projects, provide employment opportunities for regions where projects are located and operated, and intensify professional training for local employees to enhance their job qualification, helping local employees¡¯ career development.

Local employees are recruited for the CPIH-Hubco Project in Pakistan.

The CPIH-Hubco coal-fired Power Plant is the high priority project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, with a total investment of $1.995 billion and a planned total installed capacity of 1.32 GW. Currently, the Project has recruited 45% local employees, including Pakistani talents graduating from world-class universities like Harvard and Cambridge. After the commencement, the Project is expected to create at least 10,000 jobs for local communities.

Conduct civil nuclear training in South Africa

To help South Africa promote the localization of nuclear power industry, SPIC has signed the Training Agreement on Civil Nuclear Energy Program in South Africa with NECSA. The first-phase basic training has been completed in 2015. On January 11, 2016, SPIC has launched the second-phase professional basic training. Students (49 in total) from South Africa have participated in engineering, manufacturing, construction, operation & start-up and project management (five modules in total) as well as eight professional basic courses. Relevant Parties from South Africa have spoken highly of the training.

Respect local culture

We respect cultural traditions and religion of project sites, actively integrate into local culture, and participate in local recreational and sports activities to enhance the sense of identity among residents of local communities.

Hand out ¡°red envelopes¡± during Japanese New Year

The Japanese New Year is the most important festival for Japanese people. When many Japanese companies have paid year-end bonus, the boss will give out a ¡°red envelope¡± in his own name as well. When SEP Japan has completed the acceptance of the Mita Solar Power Plant, the president has bowed to thank every employee at presence and wished them a happy New Year in advance. Moreover, a red envelope of 10,000 yens has been handed out to each employee to show respect to local culture.

Jointly construct a harmonious community

We actively participate in community activities, and help enhance the level of education of the community by financing local schools. With poverty-alleviation activities moreover, we actively contribute to social development and create a harmonious community.

Support the development of education in Tanzania

SEP Tanzania, the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania, and China-aid medical team of Tanzania went to Moussa Ma town, a remote village in the northern Tanzania for public benefit activities, presented textbooks, stationery, football and other stationery and sporting goods to five local rural primary schools, so as to encourage children to study hard and lead a healthy life.

Deepen overseas communication

As a national enterprise proactively fulfilling our social responsibilities, we maintain transparent overseas operation and continue to strengthen our interaction with the community, government and media, and are widely recognized by overseas stakeholders.

The Malta Project organizes college students to visit power plants.

SEP Malta has organized students in Electric Power Engineering from the University of Malta to visit D3 Power Generation Co., Ltd., so as to understand the contribution of the Project of changing oil to gas to Malta¡¯s environmental development and energy reform, as well as its importance to achieve EU Energy 2020, effectively improving the recognition of SEP Malta in Malta public.

The CPIH-HUBCO Project conducts media publicity.

Green construction

Great importance to environmental protection has been attached during the construction of the Vietnam Yongxin Project, and impacts of the construction on local people¡¯s life have been minimized:

  • ¡¤Arrange garbage collection stations and implement waste classification management. Hazardous waste and waste materials are intensively disposed by local professional companies, so as to protect the environment.
  • ¡¤Adopt regular watering, centralized cleaning of factory vehicles and other dust control measures in the construction site to ensure that the surrounding environment will not be affected.
  • ¡¤Afforest or lay screen cloth to cover bare surface of the whole plant area to prevent environmental pollution caused by the wind-induced dust flowing.
  • ¡¤Hire professional companies for regular environmental monitoring and control to avoid unexpected environmental events.

Rendering modified due to sea turtle protection

As its project site is near the area for sea turtle breeding, the Turkey Project has actively changed the coal storage program from a round coal yard to Eurosilo. Though the construction cost has been increased, its occupied area is smaller, which also provides a life channel for sea turtle breeding. Meanwhile, we have entrusted experts from ecology, biology, hydrology and sea turtle research and other areas to re-write the evaluation report on the Project¡¯s ecological impact on the protection zone of sea turtles, which has been recognized by the MoEU.
