We are committed to common regional growth and build advanced power infrastructure for developing countries and regions to meet local energy demand, and carry out assistance projects suitable for local situations for better economic growth.

Bamboo chopsticks plant established and put in operation in Aung min da migrant village in Myanmar

In April, 2013, Ayeyawady River Hydropower proposed the idea to build a bamboo chopsticks plant in Aung min da to address livelihood issues of some immigrants. It then released a feasibility report based on full investigation and debate and carried out the project after strict approval procedures in Myanmar. On August 4, 2015, the bamboo chopsticks plant in Aung min da migrant village was built and put in operation. All the workers of the plant are local villagers who moved to the village due to Myitsone project. The plant is supposed to improve migrants¡¯ live in various ways and promote local economic growth.

¡¤Thanks to Ayeyawady River Hydropower. There are only 10 workers in the plant though, and we hope that the planting is to grow with help of Ayeyawady RiverHydropower, and the products can be sold to Mandalay. What is important is that more employment opportunities are offered to migrants. ¡¤

Maximum use of local produced materials in Vietnam project

The BOT project development team of Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant Phase I deals with conflicts arising from cultural differences between China and Vietnam, and adopts cross-cultural strategy including understanding, adaptation and fusion to carry out effective management measures.

By ensuring the benefits of investors, BOT project maximizes the purchase of local materials including rebar, cement, consumable materials for maximization of local interests. It helps promote the development of relevant industries and reduce project risks; in addition, BOT company undertakes corporate social responsibilities, provides employment opportunities as many as possible, engage in local government¡¯s call for poverty alleviation and education fund donation, which all gained recognition and support of local government and people.

The BOT team held a number of trainings in language, folk culture, business writing, project contract, financing and insurance and safety knowledge, through which employees at all levels engage in full communication in various ways. This practice helps promote mingling of different cultures, and is considered as both training and further understanding.

Malta Project reduces local tariff by 25%

The partnership project by Shanghai Electric Power (SEP) and Malta Energy has made the largest single foreign investment in history of Malta. It mitigates Enemalta¡¯s difficulties, introduces advanced and efficient management mode, and thus exerts an impact on the country and the Europe.

Edward Scicluna, Minister of Finance noted how the country could enhance its productivity and competitiveness via foreign investment in his speech in Malta¡¯s national budget 2015 discussion meeting. In terms of energy, he spoke of the strategy cooperation between SEP and Enemalta, a partnership that saves the Enemalta from bankruptcy and gives it a second life. The cooperation is also positive to the country¡¯s sovereign rating. S&P said that SEP¡¯s energy investment project could help cut Malta government¡¯s debt and the state¡¯s tariff (25% cut of user tariff) to drive economic growth. The tariff rate ranks the second last now, much lower than before when it was in the third place in EU. The line loss reduced from 14% to 9%, and the grid reliability went up around 62%.

Malta Times released the press titled Prime Minister Muscat: It Is Time to Make Decision for Malta Air, Enemalta as an Example on December 20, 2015. The Prime Minister said that the government should follow Enemalta, attract foreign capital for equity acquisition and set up airline strategic partnership.

The press release column of Malta government¡¯ website, Enemalta, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economic Affairs also released several presses in 2015 that recognized the positive and far-reaching influence exerted by SEP in terms of economic drive, promotion of energy industry and livelihood improvement.

Turkey Project received support from local government and people

During execution of Turkey Hunutlu Thermal Power Plant Project (H Project) by SEP and Turkey EMBA Electricity Production Inc., ¡°high reliability, efficiency and environmental indicators¡± are set as the highlights.SEP actively communicate with Turkish government, news media and local people and has built a good international image for SPIC.

EMBA project company and the government officials and industry professionals of the place where the project is run enjoyed dinner during Bairam in July, 2015. Officials of Adana and Yurmurtalik, media people and clan representatives joined the dinner and meeting. After the dinner, Mr. Mete Bulgun, the Turkish General Manger, elaborated the background of H Project and its development stage, and the employment opportunities that can be created by the Project directly and indirectly. The Project is considered to promote local social and economic development and people¡¯s livelihood, and is therefore recognized by private property owners and clan representatives.

Mr. Mete Bulgun, the Turkish General Manger, after the H Project was given the generation permission, was interviewed by TGRT HABER and Turkey ATV Channel. He shared the idea of ¡°high reliability, efficiency and environmental indicators¡± of H Project, and his remarks was covered by several Turkish media.

¡¤EMBA Electricity Production Inc. is going to build a thermal power plant in Yumurtalik. The Chinese technical team said that it would not affect the region¡¯s scenic landscape and would build the plant the most advanced generation station in Turkey and Europe. Local people said that the Project would help drive employment and regional development. ¡¤

Commitment to local employment

We ensure our overseas operation could benefit local employment. We do localized employee management and share advanced technology and management practice for improvement of local talent quality. In 2015 we worked with China Power International, Yunnan International, SPIC International Mineral & Investment, and SEP to do work plan and execution scheme for people localization for overseas projects and revision on these plans. By end of 2015, there had been around 160 local employees in Myannmar Ayeyawady River Project, Turkey Thermal Plant, Guinea Project and Japan Photovoltaic Project.

Recruitment of Pakistan people and project localization

Pakistan Representative Office of CPI actively creates employment opportunities for local people. It makes plans of recruitment and localization, and attracts talents with superb business culture. The Three Focuses is the company¡¯s secret to employ the right people and retain them: first, focus on employee¡¯s salary and welfare, and make remuneration criteria that is consistent with local salary system; second, focus on employee¡¯s vocational health and safety, provide regular health check and set up documents; third, focus on creating a harmonious cultural environment, and advocate ¡°happy life and healthy work" to promote exchange, deal with issues and suggestions proposed by employees, offer various cultural and sports activities and help people get attached more.

¡¤Pakistan has suffered power scarcity for years and many of its plants were shut down or moved to other countries. This issue has led to lower and lower employment. With execution of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project, development opportunities are brought to Pakistan, particularly energy project planning and its execution, as it will address lack of power in coming years and offer more employment opportunities. ¡¤

Key positions in Vietnam Project were provided to locals

The BOT project (Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant Phase I) introduced Vietnam executives and positions including accountant general, accounting staff, legal counsel, business assistant, HR assistant and translator are offered to locals as well. Barriers arising from differences in cultural background, language and mindset were overcome, and local employees who know well of conventions, market dynamics, government regulations and who have good network help promote fusion with local society and culture. This practice has driven employment and a good and friendly external environment for project execution.

Respect local culture

We respect local religion and customs of the place where we operate. By enhancing exchanges and engaging in local festivals, we aim to create a working environment consistent with local culture for employees.

Respect Muslim conventions and culture
From July 8 to July 12, to visit more than 10 local poor villages during the Ramadan period of Muslim

Islam is the state religion of Pakistan. 97% of people are Muslim and need to do worship 5 times every day. When the Koran is played by Mosque to the public through loudspeakers, a large number of Muslim follow it and chant. Therefore the Pakistan Office of China Power International set a worship room for employees for their regular pray as well as the company¡¯s ongoing business. This solution balances business and religion. In addition, the company requires Chinese employees to respect Muslim¡¯s conventions and culture and prohibit them to involve in any subjects that are profane to doctrines of Islam, or to disturb locals when they are in pray, or stop to watch worship as onlookers. It requires Chinese employees to show their sincerity and respect in trivial things.

Build harmonious communities

We are dedicated to public services, and have set plans to provide fund and material assistance to poor areas, science, education, culture and health projects, welfare and environmental programs. We set up emergency mechanism, and provide disaster relief assistance in the first time to fully support community development.

No malaria case discovered in migrant village with the help of Chinese medical expert team

Around 37 million people are living the areas where malaria is rampant in Myanmar. At least 4000 people died from the disease. Ayeyawady River Hydropower held epidemic prevention and control training and voluntary treatment four times against malaria and dengue fever for 2 years. As a result, none of the 2600 people on the site of Ayeyawady River Project or in the surrounding communities suffered malaria. In 2015 during the peak period of malaria in rainy season in Myanmar, Ayeyawady River Hydropower again invited the experts of Tengchong County Disease Control Centre to go to Ayeyawady River Project and surrounding communities for malaria prevention and control and voluntary treatment. They provided blood test for all employees, and the result indicated that the number of affected people for the first timewent down to zero. No other malaria case was found in the later 2-day voluntary treatment for nearly 200 villagers in migrant village and surrounding communities.

 
Promote local education development
Set up Ayeyawady River Hydropower Scholarship

Ayeyawady River Hydropower¡¯s employees set up the ¡°Ayeyawady River Hydropower Scholarship¡±on voluntary basis at the end of 2012. The scholarship was granted 4 times since January 30, 2013 and has been run as a long-term education program. By the end of 2015, 5.35 million Kyats were given to sponsor 161 outstanding students.

Sunflower Love for School Program by SNPDRI Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute

SNPDRI Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute is committed to the goal of ¡°guiding business with culture and intelligence and sending love to others¡± and set up the Sunflower Love for School Program. With increase of domestic and overseas projects, SNPDRI Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute continues to do charity under the Sunflower program outside the province and overseas. It has built charity as SNPTC¡¯s image program of youth voluntary service and aims to run the Sunflower Love for School programs around the world.

 
Support for disaster relief
Support Pakistan for earthquake disaster relief

In 2015 earthquake (5.0 Richter Scale or above) broke out several times in boundary area between northern Pakistan and Afghanistan and northwest of Pakistan was severely affected. According to Pakistan Disaster Administration, the casualty reached 267, and the injured was over 1,856, with more than 11,000 houses/apartments affected. The Representative Office of CPI responded to the call of China Embassy in Pakistan and worked as volunteer in the Embassy¡¯s charity sale. Service staff also donated when providing service and work hard to make contributions to the people of the affected area.

Provide debris flow disaster relief to Guinea

In September 2015, Bel Air region, where the industrial park of Aluminum oxide Guinea project is located, suffered severe debris flow disaster. The Guinea Company of SPIC International Mineralwent to the site in the first time to visit the affected groups, which was covered by radio rural de Boa and Guinea¡¯s news network.
